BANNIK

The Bannik is the guardian of the bathhouse in Slavic folklore. Witnesses describe a naked old man with a big head and a long, white beard, adorned in birch leaves from the baths.
The bannik is a fairly neutral spirit, though cantankerous and dangerous when angered. If disturbed by an intruder, the bannik might pour boiling water over them, or strangle them to death.
He protects the sacred bathhouse where women perform divinations and give birth, and is the keeper of the steam that is said to have healing properties.

He is told to be able to predict one's future: one turns their bare backs to him, and if their future bodes well, he will gently caress their back with his hand. If not, he will rake it open with his claws.
